Carla Bley née Carla Borg (née le 11 mai 1938) est une pianiste compositrice de jazz américaine. c'est une figure importante du jazz post-bebop. Son œuvre la plus connue est l'opéra jazz The Escalator Over the Hill. Elle est née à Oakland en Californie. Son père était un professeur de piano et maître de chapelle. Il l'a rapidement poussé à chanter et à apprendre le piano. Elle délaisse l'église pour le patin à roulette à 14 ans.
